Smartphones are getting fancier and more powerful by the day. Thankfully too, you will be able to walk away with a brand new phone without breaking the bank.

In this post, we have compiled the top 10 list of smartphones under 30,000 Naira selling on in Nigeria. Some brands are well-known brands while others are new players. Nonetheless, these are all great budget smartphones to own.

Infinix Hot 3

For a budget smartphone, the Hot 3 holds its own as a phone to get if you looking for a big screen phone that has very good display, plays good sound and can smoothly handle most apps. It is a good bargain.

Design

While the front of the Infinix Hot 3 always has a black finish, the back coverings of the Infinix Hot 3 comes in 5 different colour flavours: gray, white, pink, blue and gold. The back covering also has a textured finish making it easier to hold. Both the volume and the power buttons are sited on the right side of the screen while the sim and memory slots are only accessible by removing the battery. Surprisingly, the Back, Home, and Menu buttons, sited outside the display screen are not back-lit.

Display

The Infinix Hot 3 has a 5.5-inch screen and the same screen resolution of 720p as the Hot 2. Even though this means that with a bigger screen, the Hot 3 has less pixel density than the Hot 2, the difference is hardly perceivable using the naked eye.

Camera

As it is marketed as a “Selfie Phone”, the Hot 3’s camera packs a number of fun features such as Smile recognition, voice recognition, and front camera flash. Performance-wise, the front camera is not impressive for picture taking. The back camera does quite a good job at taking pictures though.

Performance

Unlike the Hot 2 which is built on Android one, the Hot 3 interface is built on XUI. The aim for using XUI was to improve the speed, battery life and display of the phone. Generally the phone handles apps and games pretty smoothly. Text and image display on the HOt 3 is also very sharp. You should do well to get the 2GB memory version as the performance difference between this and the 1GB variant, on resource-intensive apps, is quite obvious. Popular social apps like Whatsapp, Twitter and Facebook are pre-installed. Also unlike the Hot 2, the Hot 3 is “plagued” by bloatware.

Storage

An internal storage of 16GB and a maximum memory of 2GB is decent to have on a budget smartphone like the Hot 3. Some users may find its maximum supported MicroSD memory of 32GB limiting.

Audio

The Hot 3 has impressive sound quality. Located at the back of the phone, the speaker produces rich loud pleasing audio. Even when the phone is placed faceup on a hard flat surface the sound comes out well without sounding muffled. The phone does not have so much bass “boom” though.

Battery

The Hot 3 boasts a 3000mAh battery and it can even be used to charge other phones. The battery life performance is fairly decent, lasting about 7 hours to a whole day depending on the intensity of use.

Lenovo A1000

Lenovo A1000

Summary

The Lenovo A1000 is a decent phone that satisfies average performance requirements of daily usage. It also maintains a clean and familiar design with two colour options to choose from, namely white and black.

Design

This phone which was announced way back in September 2015 maintains the familiar design consistent with Chinese phones of that time era. The volume rocker and power button are sited on the right side of the screen. The speaker grill is also sited at the back below the usual primary camera. Compared with modern smartphones, the bezels appear rather thick. The Back, Home, and Menu buttons are found on the phone itself instead of on screen.

Display

The 4-inch screen found on this phone outputs a resolution of 400 x 800 pixels. Given the relatively smaller size of the phone the phone output the display at a 233 density per pixel is decent. It supports multitouch input of up to 2 fingers.

Camera

The camera on the A1000 is very basic. It will take decent shots but may not appeal so much to selfie-fans who like to have their pictures looking right on their social media-sharing sprees. You may have to look elsewhere if picture taking is your thing.

Performance

The Cortex-A7 outputs good performance for general use. Most apps will open and run quite fluidly but heavy usage and high graphical games can hamper the performance.

Storage

The storage on the A1000, which equals 1GB of ram and 8GB of internal storage, will hold up for many average users who use everyday apps like facebook, whatspp and basic games. Heavy app users might find the 8GB storage filled up in no time. The expandable storage of 32GB is a nice extension to help move infrequently used apps to the SD.

Battery

At 2000mAh the battery life on the A1000 is relatively small and may require daily charge even on average usage.
